Secrets To A Successful Soundcheck

Mic check one, two. Check one, two. Have you ever heard the emcee or host of an event say this into the microphone before the show or presentation starts? They are testing out the sound system to create the best listening experience for their audience. There’s a lot that goes into a soundcheck so see below for some secrets to success.


First off, you’ll want to find the audio engineer as soon as your get to the venue. It’s important to get to know him or her and ask some general questions about the PA system. Try to find out how the system changes when there is a full audience in the room, because we all know things sound different in an empty room.

After speaking with the engineer and learning a bit about the venue, you can go ahead and start testing the mics. If there will be more than one mic, one for vocals and another for music or instruments, start with the vocal mic(s) first. Keep in mind that louder doesn’t always equal better.

How To Make Your Presentation A Success

Get the sweats? Clammy palms? Can’t stop tapping your foot? If you have a fear of public speaking or presenting you know all about how stressful getting up in front of an audience can be. And while they may not completely cure your nervous symptoms, these three secrets can help make your presentation a successful one.

Make It Understandable

Have you ever listened to somebody speak to an audience where you weren’t able to understand their message? Your crowd will be much more engaged if your presentation is free of jargon, buzzwords, complexity and confusion. So how can you make it happen? Think of it like Twitter, you only have a 140 character limit (although this won’t actually be the case).

Make It Memorable

How can you say your presentation was a success if the audience can’t remember what you spoke about? Try to incorporate the rule of three. We tend to only remember three to seven points in the short term so if you can limit your presentation to three major points, or group your content into threes, there’s a much better chance they will be able to recall what you said down the road.

Make It Emotional

We don’t mean that you have to make every member of the audience leave in tears or have them laughing at everything you say. But you should appeal to their emotions – it’s a great way to get them to lock in on what you’re presenting. You can do this by telling a story, but make sure it relates in some way to a main point of your presentation.
