What is a Matrix Switch?

Is your next event going to consist of multiple screens with a number of video components? If you want your content to be shared everywhere at once or only on certain screens at a time, you’re going to need a matrix switch.

Depending on the number of inputs and outputs you need, there’s a matrix switch for that. They range from 2 inputs and 2 outputs (2×2) all the way up to 32 inputs and 32 outputs. They aren’t usually meant to be installed by your average-joe, so make sure to hire a professional or at least consult with one before using.

Why Do You Need One?

If you had a standard home theater system, the HDMI ports on the back of your system support the role of a matrix switch. However, if you want your video sources to be seen on multiple displays or even in separate rooms at the same time, then you need a separate matrix switch.
